Chanecka played high school basketball at Binghamton High, then came to Wilkes-Barre in 1946 to play for the Barons. In 1947, he was named team captain and held that post for five years. He played his last season with the Barons in 1953. In 1957, Chanecka joined the Wyoming Valley Country Club and was club champion six times. In 1973, he began teaching golf for the Luzerne County Recreation Department, and in 1974, began coaching golf at Luzerne County Community College. He started coaching the LCCC women’s softball team and continued there until 1982.
