Andrews had an outstanding athletic career in baseball, football, track and basketball at Shickshinny and Kingston High Schools during the mid 1920’s. After transferring to Kingston following his freshman year, he earned 13 athletic letters. During his high school baseball career, Andrews threw seven no-hitters. After high school, Neilson pitched for Fordham University, where he earned three letters. He later went to play for the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Giants organizations in 1931 and 1932. He also played for two years for the Wilkes-Barre Barons of the New York League. When his playing career ended, Andrews coached and taught for 37 years at Kingston and Wyoming Valley West before retiring in 1969.
