Tomasetti gained his first football fame as a member of the Old Forge High School team in the 1930’s. In 1939, he earned All-American Honorable Mention as the Co-Captain of the Bucknell University football team. He played in the Blue-Gray game and with an Eastern All-Star team that played against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers and later played with the Eagles when the franchises were switched. After serving in the Navy for three years, Lou played one year with the Hollywood Bears before joining the Buffalo Bills of the new All-American Conference. He played four years with the Bills and finished one season just 48 yards behind the league-leading rusher. In 1949 he scored three touchdowns in Yankee Stadium during Lou Tomasetti Day.
