Lincoln Welles Jr. Lincoln Welles Jr., “Line” graduated from Wyalusing Area High School in 1971 where he was an exceptional scholastic athlete. Line played football, basketball and baseball and earned nine letters. He led the basketball team to a rare NTL title in basketball. He was the winner of the Freierty football award and the Catherine Kinney basketball award. He was known as a take-charge performer and thrived under pressure. Line went on to Bloomsburg University where he was a standout in both baseball and football. Welles was a four-year letter winner in baseball and a three-time letters winner in football. He was named the Underclassman Athlete of the Year as a junior and won the Redman Award in 1975. A two-time All-PSAC selection in both football and baseball. Welles led the NCAA Division III in punting in 1973 with a mark of 43.8 yards. That is still the 12th best mark in the division since 1973, a span of 29 years. Welles was also an all conference back and with 10 interceptions is the co-holder of the single-season interception mark set in 1974. On the baseball diamond. Welles hit .398 for his career with a homer and 27 RBI. In 1973 and 1974 he was named first team All-PSAC and was a second team selection in 1975 after missing eight games due to injury. He was team MVP in 1973 and 1975. Lincoln was inducted into the Bloomsburg Hall of Fame in 2002. He also played for the Philadelphia Bell of the short-lived World Football League. Linc is employed by the Wyalusing Area School District and has been an assistant football coach for 21 years. Linc and his wife Lynn reside in Wyalusing and have a daughter, Loren.
