Kristin Stretanski began swimming competitively at the age of 3, yes 3, taking 1st place in the YMCA summer swim meet. From there, her athletic journey took off.
Kristin trained with FAST Aquatic Team, where she proved herself, qualifying for her first Nationals at age 11. Kristin is a Junior Olympic record holder in all age groups, and in YMCA Swimming, she has 18 age group district first-place titles, 4 district records, and 8 age group state titles.
Along with swimming, Kristin excelled in Track and Field with long jump records as well as placing in the PIAA District II Championships for long jump, discus, and sprints for 4 years, helping WVW High School to 4 District II Track and Field Team Titles.
Her high school swimming accolades began at her first swim meet, where she broke long-held records. Kristin went on to hold 42 records at various high schools and held nearly every Team or Pool record for the girls at WVW H.S at one point. With 16 first place PIAA District II medals, 12 State Medals, and 12 All Americans, she helped lead WVW to 4 straight PIAA District II Swim Team titles. Kristin has a total of 8 PIAA District II Team titles. Individually, undefeated all 4 years in league and district competition, a 5-year Junior National qualifier. First ever local swimmer to be invited to NISCA National High School Swim Championships at the Swimming Hall of Fame.
Other awards include: NISCA Top Award 4 years, Times Leader MVP 4 years, Kof C outstanding swimmer award 4 years, Joe Holinski Killer Bee Award Winner, Keystone State Games Athlete of the Year, PIAA Swim Official outstanding swimmer 4 times, and US Open Swimming qualifier and participant.
After High School, she received a Division I full ride to Villanova University, where she was an Academic All American 4 times, NCAA qualifier, Big East Conference Team Champion 1996, and placed in the Big East Championships all 4 years. Kristin was a record holder and Captain for Villanova in 1999. She also got to train at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado for all 4 years. While at Villanova, she loved and found a passion for teaching swimming to children with disabilities. During her master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling at the University of Scranton, she was the Wyoming Area swim and dive coach.
Kristin is currently a Licensed Mental Health Therapist (LPC) for the IU, and in private practice. Outside of work, Kristin is Assistant Scoutmaster (ASM) for her local Scouting America troop, and a Merit Badge Counselor mostly for water sports. Nationally, she has co-authored multiple mental health programs for Scouting America and finds joy in being a swim instructor at Malvern Preparatory.
