About This Inductee

Ken Smith, deceased, of Scranton was a star in football, baseball and basketball at Scranton Tech. In 1920, his senior year, he was the captain in football and basketball. Smith then went to Bloomsburg, and quarterbacked the team to the State Teachers’ College Champion-ship. He also played baseball and basketball there. He moved on to Penn State and was a member of the football and baseball teams. He played pro basketball for the Scranton team in the old Penn State League, and played pro baseball for the Paterson Buswicks. He became GAR High School’s first baseball coach and held the position for 28 years. The team won titles in 1940 and 1941. He also coached the GAR basketball team in 1945 and 1946. Smith was also a Pennsylvania football official for 28 years. He was the secretary of the Northeastern Football Officials Association for 18 years, and secretary of the Wyoming Valley Football Conference from 1962 until 1975.
