Kara Babuscak was a softball player and cheerleader most of her life. Her father and brother instilled the fundamentals of softball which lasted throughout her softball career. She played for the Junior/Senior Wilkes-Barre Girls Softball League, winning three junior and three senior championships. She played second base and later shortstop. In the summer league, Kara was the second base starter and letterman for Plains Junior High School softball team for three years. Next, at Coughlin High School, she lettered three years in softball (team captain) and cheerleading. She earned honorable mention her junior year, and All-Scholastic as a senior. Her career batting average was .520 and career fielding average was .985, leading Coughlin to the AAA South title in her sophomore and senior years. She was featured in The Times Leader newspaper, sports section, as one of the top student-athletes in Wyoming Valley. Her cheerleading team competed in the National High School Cheerleading Championships at Sea World, Orlando, Florida. Kara attended Penn State University where she continued to play intramural softball and worked as an umpire for IM softball while continuing her education. She is a member and certified with the American College of Sports Medicine and is currently working as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist in Harrisburg – working closely with cardiac patients and their doctors. Kara is waiting for a reply from the Camp Hill School District for the head coaching position in softball. The daughter of John and Ellen Babuscak of Mountain Top, Kara currently resides in Harrisburg.
