Joe “Samoney” De Simone has accumulated one of the most outstanding sports records ever accomplished in Lackawanna County and Northeastern Pennsylvania. He excelled in football, baseball, basketball, track, handball, and boxing. Joe was offered both football and boxing scholarships from various colleges throughout the United States. And one can’t forget his ability as an area sports administrator. Some of his accomplishments included: Old Forge High School first all-scholastic selection,1931,Lackawanna County all scholastic quarterback and most outstanding football player 1931-32, Northeastern Pennsylvania quarterback selection 1931-32,Northeastern Pennsylvania regional amateur boxing champion undefeated 21 bouts, elected to Scranton area sports hall of fame and set all-time voting record (1980-15,637), elected to Northeastern Pennslyvania chapter sports hall of fame 1984, former recreation director and physical fitness boxing gym instructor. Joe resides in Old Forge and is married to the former Edith Biondi. He has two children, Charles and Julie and four grandchildren, Michael and Greg Martinelli and Renee and Joe Desimone, Jr.
