About This Inductee

A 1956 graduate of Luzerne High School, Jim played football, base ball and basketball. He excelled at quarterback, linebacker, punter/ place kicker and was selected Sunday Independent Wyoming Valley All-Scholastic Quarterback in 1955. He played in two UNICO games. In baseball, he led the team in batting 3 years as second baseman, shortstop and catcher. Jim played four years of football at the U.S. Army Military Academy and as a junior was a member of Army’s last undefeated team (9-0-1), which finished 3rd in the nation. As a sophomore Jim was selected as number two quarterback, out-dueling three other men for this position, one of whom was Peter Dawkins who went on to win the 1958 Heisman Trophy. Jim was the Brigade 177-pound wrestling champion as a sophomore and the Brigade heavyweight Boxing champion as a senior, graduating in June 1960 as a Second Lieutenant Infantryman. He played two years of football while at Fort Bragg. Jim served 19 ½ years in the military (active and re-serves), retiring as Lieutenant Colonel. Jim is married with four children, 8 grandchildren and resides in Swoyersville with his wife of 40 years, the former Martha Klockgether.
