Jerry attended Dunmore High School where he was on the track team and was Confer-ence Champion in the 110 low hurdles in 1952 and 1953. He received an Associate Degree in Labor Relations from the Penn State University, Worthington Campus in Dunmore. Jerry joined the U.S. Army and while stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, he played for the football and boxing teams in 1956 and 1957. In his professional boxing career he had a record of 38 wins and 6 losses. Jerry fought in Madison Square Garden eight times. He has been a referee and judge for professional boxing and has managed and trained amateur and professional boxers. Jerry is a union representative for Heavy Highway Labor, Local 158, also Secretary/Treasurer. He has received many honors, among them the Chic Feldman Foundation Hall of Fame, Tii-City—New York State Hall of Fame, and Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. He has been married to the former Sharon “Mickey” Buerkle for thirty-nine years, and they have six children, Deborah, Gerald, Robert, Sharon, Judy, and Ronald. He also has eleven grandchildren.
