About This Inductee

Dave graduated from West Pittston High School where he participated in track, baseball and football. In 1948 the football team won the Luzerne County Conference Championship. He attended the University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona on a full football scholarship, with a major in physical education and a minor in history, graduating in 1953. During his senior year he functioned as a “double duty” performer, working both on offense and defense for the Wildcats, a rarity among college ball players. He received the Governor’s Award for Most Valuable Player in 1952. He was also chosen on the Associated Press Al-Star Conference Team in the Border Conference as a defensive halfback. He also participated in swimming and diving at Arizona. Dave was awarded a certificate & named to the permanent University of Arizona team roster at the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Indiana, by the National Football Foundation for his accomplishments on the field in 1950, 1951, and 1952. He retired from Trans World Airlines in 1991 and 35 years of service. An avid golfer, Dave won first place with a low score of 62 last year in Albuquerque tournament. Dave passed away in 2020 in Albuquerque, leaving behind his wife Janice and his children Elizabeth Dahlinger and David Craig Richards.
