About This Inductee

At Wyoming Area School District, Richard lettered three years in football, was first team All-State, first team All-Regional and first team All-Conference, as well as Wyoming Conference MVP. His football jersey number (#13) was retired as Wyoming Area. He lettered three years in baseball, was first team All-Conference. He played on multiple Greater Pittston Legion championship teams. He also lettered two years in basketball. At William & Mary, Richard earned first team All-Atlantic 10 honors three consecutive seasons. In 2003 he ended the season as the A-10 leader in receptions per game (6.3) and was 19th nationally. He was second in A-10 in reception yards per game (88.8) and 23rd nationally. He was fourth in league in touchdown receptions (7). His 63 catches in 2003 marks his career high for a single season. His career records at William & Mary include: school’s record holder in receptions (224), receiving yards (4,168), receiving touchdowns (31), average yards per reception (18.6 – for players with more than 75 career catches), most 100-yard receiving games in career 21, consecutive games with at least two catches (44 – every career start), most 1,000 yards receiving seasons (two – 2001/2002). He ended his career third in all-time career punt return yardage (538 on 55 attempts; 9.8 yards per attempt). He broke the 100-yards barrier 19 times in last 32 games of his career. In the Atlantic 10 records books, he is listed as the All-time leader in career receiving yards (4,168), 224 career receptions (ranks seventh all-time), 31 career TD receptions (tied for seventh all-time), 116.1 yards per game average in 2001 (ranks as the fourth-best single season in A-10 history). In NCAA Division I-AA record books, he finished third all-time in career receiving yards (4,013), career average of 93.3 yards per game (ranks 12th all-time), one of only three players to go over the 4,000 yard career receiving yards barrier. He had pro baseball tryouts with the Mets and Phillies. Richard attended NFL training camps four years with Tennessee, New England (2) and San Diego. He also played with NFL Europe with the Berlin Thunder two years. He played Arena football two years with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers. Employed by Husky Provisions, he presently resides in West Pittston area. He is also varsity assistant football coach at Wyoming Area High School – 7th grade girls basketball.
