Stralka started playing football at Newport High School where he received four letters and was All-Scholastic in 1932, his senior year. He also played basketball and track in high school. He went to Georgetown University and starred as a tackle for three years and was named as an Honor-able Mention All-American. Upon graduation, Stralka joined the Washington Redskins and played from 1938 to 1942. Clem spent 1943 to 1945 in the Navy and returned to the Redskins in 1945 and 1946. In 1946, Stalka became line coach for the Merchant Marine Academy. He was the head coach for five years and spent a total of thirty years as line coach and head wrestling coach.
