At G.A.R. Memorial High School, John earned three varsity letters in wrestling and one in track. He placed second in District wrestling in his sophomore and senior years and fourth in his junior year. He was a senior co-captain at G.A.R. At Wilkes College, John wrestled during his freshman year. John began as a P.l.A.A. wrestling official during the 1963-1964 season. John served as secretary, treasurer, vice-president and president of the local officials’ chapter. He officiated many District, Regional, State championships and served as P.I.A.A. Statewide wrestling interpreter since 1980 and supervisor of officials for the State lndividual Wrestling Tournament since 1982. John has been supervisor of officials for State Dual Meet Championships since inception and was nominated and selected to be a member of the National Rules Committee where he served the maximum four year term. Five years after becoming a high school referee, John passed the college test and became an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling official, and later served as membership chairman, vice-president, president of the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Officials’ Association. After 25 years of collegiate officiating, John retired and was inducted into the E.l.W.O.A. Hall of Fame 1994. He was a member of the E.W.L. officials’ organization and inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, PA Chapter 2003. He officiated three National championship tournaments, league championships including M.A.C., State College, E.I.W.A. and A.C.C. John retired at the end of the state tournament in March of 2019 after a total of 56 years of officiating wrestling. Dr. Hosage and his wife Carolyn reside in Mountain Top and are the parents of four: Tamara K. Spada, Tanya K. Bonomo, John A. Hosage Jr., and Alan D. Hosage.
