About This Inductee

A graduate of East Stroudsburg University, Mr. Najaka earned ten varsity letters. Najaka was the college’s starting quarterback for four seasons, played basketball for two seasons, and baseball for four years. Mr. Najaka hit over 300 each of his four seasons at East Stroudsburg. Mr. Najaka played two years of professional baseball and later coached and managed semi-professional baseball in Northeastern Pa. For twenty-nine years he was athletic director and baseball coach for the Newport Township Greater Nanticoke Area school district. His baseball teams won fourteen Wyoming Valley league, and two county championships. Mr. Najaka was a football and basketball official for twenty-seven years, refereeing both high school and college games. He was an organizer and chairman of high school play-offs in Luzerne County and a baseball tournament director of the Luzerne and Lackawanna county play-offs in District Two P.I.A.A. He was elected four terms to represent the Wyoming Valley officials of the Eastern Pennsylvania Board of International Association of Approved Basketball Officials. Mr. Zig Najaka, dean of baseball coaches, passed away February 2, 1992.
