Tom had a great career at Pittston Area from 1985 to 1989. He was an exceptional student/athlete who excelled in the classroom and on the basketball court. He was a four year starter and a First Team All Scholastic. During the 1988 – 1989 season Tom was named to the Pennsylvania Big School All State Team and his 30.3 points per game scoring average led the state of Pennsylvania in scoring. In addition Tom was named the Most Valuable Player or Player of the Year by every newspaper. His Most Valuable Player/Player of the Year honors included the Citizens Voice, Times Leader, Sunday Independent, Scranton Times and Sunday Times. Tom was also named Most Valuable Player in the Senior All Star Game. His 1687 career points scored ranks him as the Patriots all time leading men’s scorer and he is a member of the Pittston Area Sports Hall of Fame. On the National Level Tom was named a Street and Smith’s Preseason High Honorable Mention All American and a McDonald’s All American Nominee. Finally, he was named to the Nike Coaches All American team. Tom went on to a four year playing career at Columbia University in New York playing for Walter Halas and the legendary Jack Rowan. Upon completion of his Columbia career Tom graduated from the prestigious California Western School of Law and is legal counsel for the Operating Engineers Central Pension Fund. Tom resides in Pine Valley, California with his wife Attorney Elizabeth and children, George 13, Ella 11, Henry 9 and Anna 7. Tom’s parents, Bill and Mary Kay, reside in Duryea.
