About This Inductee

Thomas D. Nageli received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health and Physical Education in 1972 from Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. Tom teaches Health, Physical Education, and Driver Education in the Riverside School District. He coached the girls’ basketball team at Riverside High School for thirteen years with an impressive career record of 330 wins and 52 losses. They won six Lackawanna League Northern Division Championships in 1981, 1982, 1986, 1987, 1989, and 1991. They also won nine District II, PIAA Class AA Champion-ships in 1979, 1980, 1981, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, and 1991. Riverside was PIAA Class AA State Champions in 1987 with a record of 29 – 0. They were also PIAA Class AA State Runner-up in 1982, and PIAA Class AA Eastern Finalist in 1989 and 1991. Riverside’s 1987 team was chosen as Girl’s Sports Team of the Decade by WARM. Their 1991 team was chosen as Northeastern Pa.’s Number 1 Team by Channel 16. Tom has received the 1987 Norman G. Unitis Memorial Award, and Scranton Times Coach of the Year in 1987, 1989, and 1991. In 1991, he received the Joe M. Butler Memorial Award, and in 1992, was inducted into the Scranton Sports Hall of Fame by the Chic Feldman Foundation.
