Dan O’Neill attended the University of Scranton and was a three-year letterman in both basketball and baseball from 1956-1959. He was a starter on basketball teams that defeated Georgetown, Villanova, and Seton Hall, as well as many other Division I schools, and averaged fifteen points per game in his senior year. After a stint in the U.S. Army where he served as an officer, he entered the field of teaching and coaching basketball and baseball at Susquehanna High School, where he won championships in both sports. He officiated basketball for over twenty-five years as PIAA, IAABO, and CBOA official working in many state playoff games. He served twenty years as principal of Honesdale High School, and during that time served as president of the Suburban Football Conference and on the Eastern Conference Steering Committee. He served on the PIAA Board of Control for many years and as chairman of District 12 PIAA. He is currently serving as Superintendent of the Wayne Highlands School District. He received his BS and MS from the University of Scranton and also his Superintendent Letter from Lehigh University. Dan entered the Pennsylvania Army National Guard upon his release from active duty and currently holds the rank of Major General and commands the 28th Infantry Division Mechanized covering Pennsylvania as well as parts of Ohio and West Virginia. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and Staff College and the United States Army War College. He is a member of numerous civic and charitable organizations. He is currently chairman of the Wayne Memorial Hospital Authority Board, a member of the Board of Directors of the Wayne Bank, and is an instrument rated pilot. Dan is married to Dr. Alice 0′ Neill and has four children, Dr. Kelly O’Neill, Erin Shine, Sandra Rickard, and Lt. Michael O’Neill.
