About This Inductee
A high school math and art teacher at the Howard Gartner School in Alexandria, VA., Kelly graduated from Tunkhannock Area High School in 1989 and received her B.S. from Juniata in 1993.
Her sports accomplishments started with Jr. High best offensive basketball in 1986, high school track with a 2nd place finish in the high jump at the Rotary Relay and a Ist place in the 4×300 M. shuttle run.
Volleyball was what she excelled in – a 3 letter varsity letter winner. Three years District II AAA championships. She has a record of 56 wins and losses in her four years on the team. She was a co-captain her senior year, and also MVP Sunday Independent and MVP of her team her junior and senior years. She was 1st team WVC All-Star, team leader in hitting percentage kills, and passing efficiency. She was awarded 1st team All-State her senior year.
In college, she also earned 3 varsity letters. At Juniata, she was instrumental in the team’s making Division III finals 3 out of 4 years where they earned 3rd place twice nationally in Division III. She was co-captain her senior year. Shelly was the team leader on hitting percentage, All-Regional 1st team, 1st team MAC All Star, and 2nd team All-American her senior year. Tunkhannock retired her jersey for the All-American Honor.
Other accomplishments include: USVBA player in high school and college, Keystone State Game Star, Named to “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges in 1992-1993.
She and her husband Russell reside in Alexandria, VA.
