Robert Simons graduated from Honesdale High School in 1966. In high school, Bob was a 4-year varsity letter winner in golf. He was also the captain of the team. He participated in the PIAA State Golf Tournament. Bob was District 12 Gold Champion in 1966. Bob graduated from Bloomsburg State College in 1970. During his college days, he was a 4-year varsity letter winner in golf. His team participated in the N.A.I.A. Tournament in 1969 and 1970. In 1970, he started his teaching career at Wallenpaupack teaching 6th grade. He has taught there for twenty-eight years. Bob was elected Teacher of the Year by the Hawley Lions. He has been a member of the Wallenpaupack Area Middle School Discipline Committee for the past three years. Bob coaches the girls’ basketball team and the golf team. He has been the girls’ basketball coach for the past seventeen years. For nine of these years, he coached the junior high team. For six years he coached junior varsity, and for the past two years he has been the head coach for the varsity team. He has been the golf coach for 27 years and is still going strong. His overall record of 331-124-19 is currently second in the state in wins. His teams have won two Wayne League Championships, three Lackawanna League Northern Division Championships, seven Dis-trict 12 Team Championships, and eleven District Individual Championships. Nine of his players have gone on be assistant or club professionals at various golf clubs in the area. Bob has an impressive amateur golf status. He has been the Honesdale Golf Club Men’s Champion seven times, Cricket Hill Golf Club Men’s Champion four times, Wayne County Open Champion five times, Pike County Open two times, and qualified for the National Public Links Championship at Bangor, Maine in 1978. Bob has also been the winner of various Member-Member and Member-Guest tournaments at the Honesdale Golf Club. He has been elected Lackawanna League Coach of the Year three times, and Pennsylvania Golf Coach of the Year in 1997. Bob was instrumental in the formation of the Biddy Basketball program at the Wallenpaupack Area School District, and served as a volunteer coach for the program. He is a member of the Wallenpaupack Area Athletic Association. Bob is married to the former Ann Marie Gilhool and has one daughter, Bridget.
