About This Inductee

Bob graduated from Nanticoke High School in 1955 and Wilkes College in 1963, with a Master’s from Scranton University and Marywood College. At Nanticoke High, he was a District II wrestling runner-up in 1955. At Wilkes College, he wrestled 4 years and played football three. He was third in the N.A.I.A. tournament in 1961 and captain of the team in 1963. He was defensive captain and MAC first team and Athlete of the Year in 1963. He began his coaching career at West Side Central Catholic and after 2 years moved to Kingston High School. Then Wyoming Valley West High School formed and Bob coached there 19 years. His teams compiled a 277-88-2 record, making him one of the winningest coaches in District II. His teams won 7 league championships and 2 District II titles. Bob was named District II Coach of the Year three times and won the Sportsmanship Award three times. He was inducted into Pennsylvania’s Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1994. Bob was a District II wrestling official for 25 years and is presently officiating high school football for his 25th year. Bob presently resides in Kingston with his wife Nancy. They have two daughters, Greta Altavilla and Karen Herman. Bob is a school counselor/teacher at State Street Elementary Center of the Wyoming Valley West School District.
