About This Inductee

Raymond Kressler is a graduate of Bangor, Pa. High School and East Stroudsburg Uni-versity, and attended graduate school at the University of California at San Jose. He played varsity baseball at Bangor High School. At East Stroudsburg, he was on the varsity swim-ming team for four years and the varsity track team for three years. He was captain of both teams in his senior year and was M.V.P. in track in his senior year. He also competed for the Santa Clara Youth Village Team. He was head track and cross-country coach at Meyers High School from 1962-1969. His meet record in track was 58 wins and 0 losses. His record in cross-country was 72 wins and 1 loss. They won seven straight city, league, and district championships anf five straight junior high school championships. Meyers athletes at state championships placed in the following events, shot put, javelin, discus, mile, two-mile, 440, and two-mile relay. He received the Meyers Quarterback Club “Outstanding Coaches” Award and the Sunday Independent “Coach of the Year.” With the cooperation of the Wilkes-Bane School Board and Athletic Director Mr. George Jones, he developed the indoor track program in the city schools. He also developed cross-country at King’s College with the cooperation of Athletic Director Bob McGrane and Reverend Father James F. Boyle. He coached the AAU team that toured Scandinavia in 1972 and was guest coach at the Royal Canadian Sports Institute, one of two Americans invited. Raymond Kressler has been president of the PA Track Coaches Association, editor and publisher of the PA Track Association, and president of the New Jersey College Track Coaches Association. He has published numerous articles in coaching journals and wrote articles for the Sunday Independent at Tokyo, Mexico City, and Munich Olympic Games.
