About This Inductee

Paul was an outstanding athlete at Tunkhannock Area, earning letters in Soccer (1991-1993), Golf (1994), Basketball (1993), Swimming (1994 and 1995) and Baseball (1993 & 1995). He was All-Conference in Soccer, Swimming and Baseball and All-State in Swimming. He held school records in 50 Free, 100 Free and 200 Free Relay and various pool records throughout the area. He earned District Gold Medals in 50 Free (1994) and 100 Free (1994 &1995). He placed third in 100 Free and fourth in 50 Free in the 1995 PIAA AA State Swim Meet. He was selected to the 1995 High School Academic All-American Team for Swimming, 1994 and 1995 Times Leader WVC Swimming All-Star Teams, 1995 WVC Baseball All-Star Team and was a Dutch Keller and Procter & Gamble Scholarship recipient. Many Tunkhannock residents vividly remember Paul’s senior season of baseball, when he suffered a stroke caused by an undiagnosed bicuspid aortic valve. To the amazement of everyone, he was determined to honor his commitment to swim for Penn State University as a freshman, despite initially suffering paralysis on one side of his body. While swimming 2 years for Penn State, he placed third in the 200 Free Relay in the 1997 Big Ten Conference Meet and was named Academic All-Big Ten 1996-97.
Paul graduated from Penn State University in 1999 with a BS in Chemical Engineering. He has been employed for twenty two years at Procter and Gamble, and currently serves as a Department Leader. He and his wife, Sara, reside in Vernon and are the parents of two sons, William and Andrew. He has coached Junior High Baseball, Age-Group Swimming, and Youth Soccer, Baseball and Basketball. He served as a Commissioner for Tunkhannock Youth Soccer and is currently the Treasurer of the Tunkhannock Youth Basketball Association. For over fifteen years, he has been a committee member for the Damon S. Young Memorial Scholarship and yearly race, honoring his brother in law who passed away from cancer just after graduating from Penn State University. His other community involvement includes the Wyoming County United Way, Tunkhannock High School Honors Banquet-Keynote Speaker and Centermoreland United Methodist Church Trustee.
Since 2002, Paul has undergone two open heart surgeries. He remains under doctor’s care and has yearly check-ups at the Cleveland Clinic. He continues to be active and fit, living life to the fullest and appreciating every day!
