Marty played basketball, baseball, and junior varsity and varsity football at Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre, where he excelled at all three sports. In 1955 he was named to the Wyoming Valley Coaches All-Scholastic First Team by The Times Leader Newspaper and played in two UNICO games in 1955-1956. His overall record in football at Meyers was 21 –2 and his overall quarterbacking completion rate was 67%. In 1956-1957, he joined the Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tennessee, where he played varsity football and baseball and was First Team All Mid-South in baseball. Marty was offered an opportunity to play semipro baseball in the Pony League in the Florida Pan Handle in 1957. In 1958, Marty passed the entrance examination at East Stroudsburg State University and was a candidate for their football team. Marty entered the U.S. Marine Corp. in 1958 however, where he played varsity football for three years before a permanent injury forced him to give up football. Marty is a member of the American Legion Post #395 in Kingston, PA., a life member of the Wyoming Valley D.A.V., a charter member of the Wyoming Valley Marine Corps League and is currently employed by the U.S. Post Office. He resides in Wilkes-Bane.
