Joe graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Wilkes-Barre, where he played four years of basketball and two years of baseball. He was a member of the All-Catholic Basketball team and the McDonald’s All-Stars. He furthered his education at King’s College, again playing basketball. Joe has been assistant basketball coach at St. Leo’s High School in Ashley, achieving a PCIAA State Championship. He was also assistant basketball coach at St. Mary’s High School in Wilkes-Barre, where they won a Southern Division Catholic League Championship. He also coached baseball at St. Mary’s. Joe has been a PIAA basketball official for 20 years. He was president of the Wyoming Valley Basketball Officials Association, a member of the CBOA Basketball Officials Association 5 years, president of Forty Fort Teeners 8 years. A member of the Forty Fort Lions, he has been chairman of the 13-year-old baseball tourney for 26 years. He has been a board member at Wilkes-Barre YMCA for 20 years and a trustee for 3 years. He has been a board member of Wyoming Valley’s All-Star basketball for 10 years, board member of Wyoming Valley’s Children’s Association for 6 years, and Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Man of year 1997. Presently, Joe is a court officer for the Honorable Mark A. Ciavarella. Joe and his wife Diane reside in Forty Fort and have five children: Deb, Jim, Doreen and John.
