About This Inductee

Joel was a four-year varsity member of G.A.R. Memorial High School football team and a member of the All Conference Team, and a four-year starter in wrestling (two time District champion, Regional champ, State runner-up). He was inducted into G.A.R.’s Wrestling Hall of Fame. At Luzerne County Community College, he was a two time Regional wrestling champ, National Junior College runner-up, National Champion in 1971 . Joel wrestled at the New York Athletic Club (1970 – 1971) and was inducted into the National Junior College Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1985. At Hofstra University, he was twice MAC University Division Champ, National Qualifier, member of NCAA East/ West Wrestling Classic; placed third in the NCAA Wrestling Tournament in Seattle in 1973. Joel became an All-American and wrestled on the USA team against Russia 1973. Overall college record: 118-8. Joel is a member of Hofstra University’s Hall of Fame, was a member of the USA team vs. the Polish National Greed/Roman team in 1974, and member of the USA Maccabiah free style & Greco/Roman teams in lsrael 1973. He earned a gold medal in Boch free style and Greco/Roman (heavyweight). He was a PIAA wrestling official, 1974 -1984. He coached from 1973 for 17 years as an assistant at G.A.R., Dallas, Meyers and Wyoming and head coach for 10 years at Nanticoke, one year at Dallas and is presently in his second year of coaching at Wyoming Valley West. Joel was named District 2 Coach of the Year and won its Sportsmanship Award in 1994. Currently, Joel is residing in Forty Fort with his wife Lynnette and daughters: Aimee and Rachel.
