Outstanding infielder and pitcher in high school and Wyoming Valley. He signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox in 1941 and played with the Boston Red Sox farm teams 1942,1946, and 1947.

Joe was drafted into the armed forces and served from 1943 to 1945. He was traded to the St. Louis Browns in 1948, then later traded to the New York Yankees in 1950. He played three years with the Yankees when they won three world series. Joe was sold to the Los Angeles Angles in 1953 of the Pacific Coast League and retired after the 1953 season.
