Joe Giglio

About This Inductee

Born in 1950, Joe attended Old Forge High School, graduating in 1968. While at Old Forge High, Joe participated in football, baseball, and basketball, earning All-Scholastic honors in football and baseball in his senior year. Joe played in the Lion’s Club Football Dream Game in 1968, and was nominated to the Big 33 football team. Joe played American Legion baseball for Old Forge Post 513 from 1967 through 1969, making All-League First Team during the 1968 and 1969 seasons. Joe went on to play baseball at East Stroudsburg University from 1969 through 1970. He earned his degree from East Stroudsburg in 1973. Joe returned to his roots at Old Forge High School, where he has been head baseball coach from 1981 to the present time. His teams were Lackawanna League champions in 1984, 1989, 1991 and 1992. They made the PIAA playoffs in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1995 and 1998. They were District 2 champions in 1991 and 1992, and PA State AA champions in 1992, one of the greatest highlights of his career. Joe was voted Scranton Times “Coach of the Year” in 1991. Joe is currently in his 25th year of teaching at his alma mater, Old Forge High. The 1999 season will be Coach Giglio’s last season, however. He states, “A long time ago, I decided that I would leave when Russ (his son, a four-year starter with the team) did. He’s going on to college and I’d like to be able to have the time to follow his career. So, this felt like the right time for me to get out.” Joe will be sorely missed by the Blue Devils. Joe resides in the Old Forge area with his wife, the former Margaret Donatelli and two children, son Russell, 19, and daughter, Sasha, 15.
