Bruce was born and raised in Wilkes-Barre, graduating from G.A.R. Memorial High School, where he played high school varsity basketball and baseball. He was team captain of the Wyoming Valley Seniors All Star Game in 1970. He continued his education at Wilkes University, where he played varsity basketball. Bruce has been a Wyoming Valley Jewish Community Center basketball program participant for 50 years and the Commissioner of the Senior Men’s Basketball League. He is a past president of Wyoming Valley Basketball Officials Association and is currently president of the Luzerne-Lackawanna County Soccer Officials and Wyoming Valley Children’s Association. HE is a past board member of the Wyoming Valley Jewish Community Center. He has been a PIAA Licensed High School basketball referee for 33 years, an IABBO Licensed College basketball referee for 30 years, a PIAA and NISOA College soccer referee for 21 years. He has officiated over 2,500 games and matches. He participated in the NBA Professional Referee Development Program from 1979-1986 in the Baker League (Philadelphia), Rucker League (NYC Harlem) and the Summer League (Los Angeles). Refereeing with the Continental Basketball Association from 1984-1986, Bruce worked with teams and coaches such as Phil Jackson (Albany), Cazzie Russell (Lancaster), Dave Cowens (Bay State). Bruce has been a financial advisor since 1974 and has won numerous financial service industry awards. He resides in in Kingston with his wife Nancy and two daughters: Janelle and Laura.
