As a Biddy Basketball All-Star, George’s team won the state title, placing third in the national tournament. George was named to the All American team. A member of the Ashley-Newtown Little League 1957 All-Star team, they won District and Regional titles. At Ashley’s St. Leo’s High School, George was the first freshman to start third base in the school’s history. At Hanover Township, the team won two consecutive league championships, with George being selected All Star twice. He led the team in hitting his senior year. In basketball, he was selected to the Wyoming Valley League All Star team, playing in the Dream Game at Scanlon Filed House with members of the Nanticoke state championship team. George received a baseball scholarship to Casleton State College in Vermont, transferring to Mansfield State after 1 ½ years. George played 10 years of semi-pro baseball, winning 7 championships. He was a manager, umpire and president in the Sugar Notch/Warrior Run/Askam Little League and has managed Mountain Top Area American Legion baseball for four years, making the playoffs twice. He began his basketball officiating career in the Mountain Top Area league, becoming one of the directors. For 28 years, George worked local high school, college, league championship, district title, inter-district, Eastern final and semi-final games. He had a pro baseball tryout in 1965 at Connie Mack Stadium with the Philadelphia Phillis. George presently evaluates basketball officials for the PIAA. He and his wife Cathy reside in Mountain Top and are the parents of three: Julia Lynn, Scott and George, Jr. They have one grand-daughter, Alyssa Lyn.
