Frank Redmond’s rise from Harding, Pennsylvania to national prominence in collegiate track and field is a story of steady progression, fierce competitiveness, and lasting impact. Born on September 12, 1988, Frank had a love for sports and looked up to numerous great athletes in Luzerne County. Frank began running track and field in the seventh grade at Wyoming Area, quickly emerging as one of Luzerne County’s most promising young athletes.

In 2003, Frank claimed a Junior High District Championship in cross country, setting the tone for an impressive high school career under head coach Dave Ruggles. In high school, Frank finished in the top 10 at the District 2 Cross Country Championships all three varsity seasons and qualified for the AA State Cross Country Championships in 2006. On the track, his development was evident each year. As a freshman, he placed third in both the 1600m and 3200m at districts, improving to second in both events as a sophomore. His junior year showcased his range, finishing second in the 800m to qualify for the AAA State Championships and helping his 4x400m relay team earn a third-place district finish. As a senior, he boldly took control of the 800m race with 500 meters remaining when he felt the pace was too slow, ultimately placing fourth and again contributing to a third-place 4x400m relay finish.

At Misericordia University, Frank’s career reached new heights. Recruited by Misericordia alum Chris Wadas, Frank knew he would be pushed to the next level. A three-time All-MAC Cross Country runner, he was named Cross Country MVP four times and Track MVP three times. He earned 20 All-MAC honors across indoor and outdoor track and was a six-time All-ECAC selection. Frank won the 2009 MAC Indoor 800m title and captured the 2011 ECAC Indoor Championship in the 800m. A three-time NCAA Division III qualifier, he achieved All-American status in 2010 with a fifth-place finish in the 800m. He still holds school records in the indoor 800m and 1000m, as well as the outdoor 800m (1:51.45).

Following graduation, Frank served two years as a graduate assistant under Coach Chris Wadas while earning his master’s degree. During that time, he competed semi-professionally with Keystone Track Club and The Susquehanna River Runners Club, winning the Valley’s Fastest Man Mile Series and numerous 5K road races.

Now living in Baltimore, Maryland, Frank is most proud of being father to his daughter, Amelia Grace. His induction into the Luzerne County Hall of Fame recognizes not only remarkable athletic achievement, but a legacy built on dedication, leadership, and heart.
