Eddie Mullin of Ashley is a former professional boxer and a member of the Wyoming Valley Boxing Hall of Fame. He fought in the featherweight and lightweight divisions during his career, which began in 1944. He lost only 7-0f-44 professional bouts. As an amateur, Mullin, also known as “Blue Eyes” Mullin, lost just 2-of-86 fights. Mullin’s amateur career blossomed when he joined the Navy. He represented the Navy in the 1948 Olympic Trials, but lost on a disputed knockout. His most memorable pro fight was a victory over Vince Martinez. He decided to leave the sport after an automobile accident. Mullin also had worked as a coal miner and a mine-stripper in Pennsylvania before he became a bartender in Hollywood, Fla. Later he landed a job as a union organizer for the United Mine Workers in Long Island, N.Y. and Chicago.
