About This Inductee

John C Andrefsky, M.D., graduated from Hazleton Senior High School in 1982 and completed his B.A. in chemistry from Franklin and Marshall College in 1986 where he received a Hackman Research Fellowship.  At HHS, he lettered in varsity basketball for 2 years and varsity track for 4 years.  He was named to the First Team Division 2 All-East Penn League Team in 1981-82 and was in the top ten in scoring that year.  He was also named to the Sunday Independent All Star Team and the Lehigh Valley All Star Team in 1981-82.  He received the Andy Fierro Scholarship for 1981-82.  He holds relay records at HHS in the 4x100m relay, 4x200m relay, and the shuttle hurdle.  He ran the 100m and 200m dashes while at Franklin and Marshall.  He is currently a green belt in taewondo.

He received his medical degree from the Hahnemann University Hospital in 1991. He completed his residency in neurology at Pennsylvania hospital in the University of Pennsylvania in 1994 then finished a fellowship in neurointensive care at the Cleveland Clinic foundation in 1995.  He remained on the staff of Cleveland Clinic until 2001 where he was the director of Neurological Intensive Care Unit from 1999-2001.  He is currently a staff neurologist at Akron General Medical Center with an academic appointment at Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine.  He has written 19 original papers and abstracts throughout his career on topics ranging from hydrogen bonds to stroke and intensive care issues, has published 7 book chapters and reviewed manuscripts from publication in peer review journals.  He has presented original work at 29 different national and international scientific meeting and continues to participate in industry and National Institutes of Health sponsored research.  He was chosen teacher of the year at the Cleveland Clinic by the neurology residents in 2000 and continues to educate medical students and residents.  He is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a member of the LifeBanc Board of Trustees and Medical Advisory Committee. He is married to Nancy Lambert Andrefsky, CPA, whom he met at Franklin and Marshall College.  They have four children, John (8), Lauren (6), Kevin (3), and Julia (1), whom currently reside in Hudson, OH.
