About This Inductee

David MacArt is a 1969 graduate of Riverside High School in Taylor, Pa. In his senior year, he was president of the National Honor Society and co-captain of the varsity basketball team. Upon graduation, Dave enrolled at East Stroudsburg University. In May of 1973, he earned a Bach-elor of Science degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in Social Studies. Dave began his teaching career at Riverside High School in the fall of 1973. During his career, Dave served as junior class advisor for thirteen years and also as advisor to the National Honor Society. In May of 1976, Dave earned a Master of Science degree in Secondary Education. In 1984, Dave re-ceived a program specialist certificate from Lackawanna Junior College. Dave is currently teaching Social Studies and Computer Science. In the fall of 1976, Dave began his coaching career as the junior high coach at Riverside. In his first season, the Vikings made it to the championship game. In 1980, the Vikings won the only Boy’s Junior High championship at Riverside. In 1981, Dave became the Junior Varsity coach, and his team won the Junior Varsity Division Championship. In 1982, Dave became the varsity coach and once again Riverside won, this time the Varsity Division Championship. The 1982 team still holds the Riverside boys’ team record with twenty-nine wins in one season. Dave served as the varsity coach from 1982 to 1996. During this time, Riverside won varsity championships in 1982, 1986, and 1987. The 1986 team won fifteen consecutive league games. The 1987 team won its championship by winning a five-team playoff for the second half championship. The 1987 team also won the District II Class AA championship. The 1987 team was the first team to repeat as Division Champion and also to win a District championship at Riverside in fifteen years. During this time, the Vikings have made district appearances in 1982, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, and 1995. Riverside made state tournament appearances in 1986, 1987, and 1990. Since leaving coaching, Dave is currently pursuing a second Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology at Marywood College. Dave is married to the former Marge Hemrick. The couple has four children: Christen, Michael, Megan, and Matthew.
