Dave graduated from Berwick Senior High School in 1951, where h e played basketball 4 years under coach Tony Denby. The team’s record was 81-17 during his 4 years there. He was All-Conference 2 years and was named MVP in his senior year. He was also named All-Scholastic and Honorable Mention All-State. At Juniata College, he led the basketball team in scoring as a freshman and broke the single game scoring record for one game with 43 points. He was elected captain during his sophomore year and was the second highest scorer. He was drafted into the Army after his sophomore year at Juniata and played 2 years of service basketball at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. Following is discharge in 1955, Dave played in the City League for about 15 years, aver­aging over 50 points per game in 3 of these years. The teams won quite a few championships. Dave also played softball for about 20 years in several leagues around the area, where he pitched many one and two hitters. He also pitched a perfect game. Dave started officiating basketball in 1957, and worked in church, high school and city YMCA leagues. He also officiated many playoffs in various leagues and conferences. Dave worked District Four finals and inter-district game. Dave started working college basketball games in 1966, working various conferences and playoffs in 21 years of college officiating. He has officiated in Madison Square Garden many times, the Palestra in Philadelphia and the Meadowlands in New Jersey. He has also officiated many tournaments in addition to the National Invitational Tournament in Madison Square Garden. Dave has had the honor of being selected to officiate at various sites of the N.C.A.A. tournaments. He has officiated for many of the top coaches in the country, and has had man of the top players in the country (including Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, and Ralph Sampson). This will be his 22nd year of college basketball officiating and his 31st year overall.
