Wyalusing Valley High School 1958 graduate. Excellent student athlete who continued his education at Mansfield B.A. 196 Indiana University of PA M.Ed. 1971, South Eastern University of Florida Ed D, 1980.
Dan has an extensive athletic career beginning with Roosevelt Trail Little League all stars. They made it to the Little League World Series in 1950. While living in Wilkes-Barre in 1953, he played on St. Theresa’s Championship Team.
He returned to Laceyville and had an extensive, successful athletic career at Wyalusing Valley H.S. He was Captain or Co-Captain on all three sports there. He cam 9/12 Ingersoll Rand Football Award for sportsmanship. Although he received 52 letters in Intent for college athletics, he accepted a professional baseball contract in 1958 with the Milwaukee Braves. He played 5 years of minor league ball.
During his training and career he shared the field with notable players such as Warren Spann, Lou Burdett, Henry Aaron and Billy Martin. He caught Joe Nuxhall and Hogiuth Wilheln. He played 5 years of winter ball and caught Bob Feller in 1963 while playing with an elite group. At spring training he played with Joe Torre, Phil Neiko and Tony Cloninger and many other great players. He caught Cloninger and many other great players. He caught Dizzy Dean in 1962 a promotional event.
Dan retired from baseball in 1966. He went into coaching 3 years at Mansfield Elkton High School for 12 years with 5 county and regional titles and a record of 150 wins and 41 losses.
Dan’s military and professional accomplishments were also very extensive. Just to Mention a few. his college paper – Fifth World Beneath the Sea (number in the State), 30 year career in the National Guard, service a state intelligence and physical training office. NCO Academy director, Battalion outstanding marine, graduate of many military specialist schools and countless honors and medals from the military Distinguished honor and service in education too numerous to mention.
Dan resides in Chesapeake City, Maryland, with his wife Deanna und their children Katharine and Grant.
