Corny Salvaterra was a football standout at G.A.R. High School in Wilkes-Barre, PA.  He continued excelling in football at Pittsburgh University.  Following graduation, he was drafted in the 17th round in 1957 by the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he starred at quarterback.
