About This Inductee

Charlie attended West Hazleton High School where he was a three-year scholar in basketball, football and baseball. As a senior he captained all three teams. He was selected to the All-Regional and All-Anthracite teams in all three sports. In 1950 he was the second area athlete to be given the Scotty Roman award as the Outstanding Athlete in the Greater Hazleton area and the McGee Honor as the outstanding senior athlete at West Hazleton High School. As quarterback he threw a 70 yard touchdown pass that led to the defeat of Hazelton in 15 years. Charlie also participated on several of the Hazleton area’s fast-pitch softball teams. He furthered his education at Millersville College where he captained their undefeated basketball team in 1954. The team was ranked as the best basketball team in the history of the University. He was selected to the Pennsylvania State college Conference All-Star 1st team. The Millersville Marauders won one state championship and competed in the NAIA championship three times. Coach Max Bishop often stated that Charlie was one of the best ten players he ever coached.
