West Wyoming
Cas Ostrowski, a 1941 graduate of West Wyom-ing High School, averaged 18 points a game over his three years of varsity basketball. He helped West Wyoming to the Valley League title his’ se-nior year. His coach, Frank Zawacki called him one of the greatest basketball players ever to play in the Wyoming Valley. After attending the University of Scranton and serving in the Navy in World War II, Ostrowski began an eight-year career with the Wilkes-Barre Barons. In March of 1949, he was named to the New York Sports Extra all-professional basketball team along with Joe Fulks of Philadelphia, Bob Davies of Rochester, Al Cervi of Syracuse and George Mikan of Minneapolis. In 1948, Ostrowski led the Barons into the league finals against Mikan and the Minneapolis Lakers. The Barons lost despite 24 points from Ostrowski. But the next year the Barons bounced back, defeat-ing Hartford 127-77 with the help of 37 points from Ostrowski.
