One of the Wyoming Valley Conference’s most accomplished multi-sport athletes,

2016 Wyoming Area grad Bree Bednarski was a dominant force known for her

athleticism, scoring ability, and fierce competitive drive. Bednarski left a lasting

impact on several sports programs during her high school career.

  In field hockey, Bednarski dominated offensively and became one of Pennsylvania’s

most prolific scorers. She finished her career with 127 goals and 37 assists, setting

Wyoming Area records for career goals (127), goals in a single season (67), and goals

in a single game (8). During her 2015 senior season, Bednarski set a Pennsylvania

state record by scoring 67 goals, a mark that remains among the highest in state

history. Her outstanding performances earned her numerous honors, including being

named the 2015 Citizens’ Voice Wyoming Valley Conference Field Hockey Player of

the Year. She also led the WVC in scoring during both her junior and senior seasons.

  Bednarski received widespread recognition for her accomplishments on the field. She

was a three-time All-State selection, earning 1st team honors in 2014 and 2015 and

honorable mention recognition in 2013. She was also named to the Max Field Hockey

All-Region Team in both 2014 and 2015. In addition, she was selected to the WVC

Coaches Field Hockey All-Star Team in 2013, 2014, and 2015. Her success extended

beyond high school competition as she was a member of the 2014-2015 United States

U17 National Field Hockey Team and was a two-time selection to the USA Field

Hockey Junior National Camp.

  Bednarski’s athletic achievements extended beyond field hockey. She excelled in

softball, earning First Team All-State honors as a centerfielder in 2015 and multiple

all-star selections from the Wyoming Valley Conference, Times Leader, and Citizens’

Voice. In track and field, she was named the 2016 Times Leader WVC Girls Track

and Field Athlete of the Year and captured four medals at the 2016 PIAA District 2

Championships, winning gold medals in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and

4×100 relay, while earning silver in the javelin. She also set Wyoming Area High

School records in all four events.

  Bednarski continued her field hockey career at the collegiate level, competing at the

University of Michigan before finishing her career at Penn State University. She was

on the 2016 Big Ten Preseason Team at Michigan. While at Penn State, she earned

Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors, was named to the All-Big Ten

Tournament Team, and received Second Team NFHCA All-Region recognition.

Following her playing career, Bednarski returned to her alma mater becoming the

Wyoming Area Head Field Hockey Coach in 2022. She has led the program to

historic achievements, including the school’s first-ever District 2A Championship

and state finals appearance in 2022. The team also won their first Wyoming Valley

Conference championship in 2023 and repeated as WVC champions in 2024, along

with winning their second 2024 District 2A Championship.

  Bednarski continues to inspire the next generation of athletes through her leadership,

dedication, and commitment to excellence both on and off the field. Bree Bednarski is

the daughter of Joe and Lyn and the sister of Drew and Bret.
