A graduate of Marymount 1960, merged into Bishop Hoban. Received his B.S. from Scranton University in 1964. He has three masters degrees, history, guidance, and secondary education.
Tony has an extensive athletic career from Little League through Sunday baseball. He was a starter four years in high school. He hit over 300 each year, he won 15 games pitching including (1) no-hitter at every level. Played on 2 league championship teams where he was an All-Star on the All-League teams. High school basketball: averaged 19-23 points in 2 years as a starter. He made All-League and Dream Game All-Star both years. He scored 1000 points in high school.
Tony coached for 38 years. He was the first coach and athletic director at Bishop Hoban. He coached basketball for 28 years at Tunkhannock High School: (1) undefeated team, 1977; and (4) District Championships, and Eastern Semi-Finals there. He went on to Kings College as an assistant for 8 years, then 2 years at Penn State, Wilkes-Barre campus.
He has a total of over 450 wins and 10 basketball titles in his coaching career. In 1991, he reached the PCIAA state final, losing to Fidelis H.S. by 5 points. He was Coach of the Year in 1970 after winning 3 titles that year. At Scranton University he was a 3 year starter in baseball where he pitched a no-hitter and hit a grand slam
homer. He was also a 2 year starter in basketball.
Tony is retired, living with his wife Janet in Wilkes-Barre. They have five children, Scott, Anthony, Carrie Engle, Christopher, and Tracy.
