About This Inductee

Bill participated in football, basketball, baseball, marbles, and coaching from the mid 1950s to retirement from coaching in 1979. In basketball, he was a part of the North League All Star team in his sophomore and senior seasons. He missed the junior season because of a broken leg during the football season. He was named the outstanding player in the “Dream” Tourney in 1959 and MVP of the Parsons YMCA Tourney in 1959. Bill led Wilkes-Barre Township to the Class C Eastern Finals, losing to West Reading. In baseball, he lettered four years as an outfielder, first baseman, pitcher and shortstop. In football, Bill quarterbacked the undefeated West Side Conference championship football team in 1958. He was first team West Side conference quarterback and received a football scholarship to Penn State University where he lettered in 1962. Bill coached football four years as an assistant and 13 years as head coach in central Pennsylvania. He also coached basketball six years as an assistant and one year as head coach. He coached numerous district champions in 10 years as head track and field coach. Bill has played on many championship basketball teams and slow and fast pitch softball teams in adult recreational and YMCA leagues. Bill was also Luzerne County Marbles champion two years in a row and competed in the National Tournament at Asbury Park, NJ in 1955 and 1956. Bill resides with his wife Carolyn in Wilkes-Barre Township.
