Billy started his sports career playing Biddy Basketball with Richard Kiewlak and Kenny Legins with the Italian Club. He played Parochial basketball for St. Francis in Nanticoke from 5th through 8th grade. Billy played on Nanticoke High School’s boys varsity basketball first team for three years, winning three straight Wyoming Valley Championships. Billy played on the Wyoming Valley First Team All Stars for three years and was MVP as a senior. He was also named Globe Store Athlete of the Week for Luzerne County. He had a combined win/ loss record for three years of 71/7. He was co-captain his junior and senior years. In his junior year he went to the Eastern PIAA Class A finals. For his junior and senior years, the team’s win/ loss record was 52/2 and won the last state PIAA Championship Class A. Billy averaged about 17 points and 14 rebounds per game over his three varsity years, scoring over 1100 points (with no three point play). He was also named Honorable Mention All State his senior year. He also played varsity baseball for four years and had around a .333 batting average over the four years. Billy also played with the Wyoming Valley Men’s Sunday Baseball League and the New Jersey Men’s Softball League (modified fast pitch) for 25 years. He won over 200 games as a pitcher, batted over 400 and also played center field and shortstop at times. His teams won five championships with Billy being named MVP for three years in playoffs. Employed by the New Jersey District Water Commission, Billy and his wife Anna reside in the Totowa, New Jersey area.
