Kelly had an outstanding athletic career at Duryea High School in the early 1930’s. He was awarded a basketball scholarship to St. Thomas College (now the University of Scranton) and graduated in 1937. Kelly was active in a number of local sports programs. He was the coach of the Duryea High School basketball team and the Duryea Wildcats football team. Tom played semi-pro basketball for the Wilkes-Barre Barons and was offered a contract with Pittsburgh. Kelly was also the Assistant Superintendent of Pittston Area High School. He died in 1982 and is survived by his wife, the former Aldona Wallace and his two daughters, Dr. Jan Wallace Kelly and Nancy Kelly.
