Thomas R. Merlie was a three sport letter-winner at Meyers High School front 1975 through 1979. As a sophomore at Meyers at the age of 14, Tom was starting quarterback for the Mohawks. He played three years varsity football, winning the city championship. He was named honorable mention All Scholastic as a sophomore and Sunday Independent All-Scholastic and won a spot on the UNICO All-Star team as a senior. Tom played four years of baseball and was named to the Wyoming Valley All-Star Team as catcher and first baseman; he captained the team his senior year. In basketball, he was named Citizens Voice All-Star his senior year. He was a two sport athlete at Dickinson College, playing football and baseball. He was a three-year starter as quarterback and was named Most Valuable Player his senior year. He also played four years of baseball at Dickinson, also named the team’s Most Valuable Player as senior captain and Sigma Chi Small College All-American. In 1983 he won the Richard H. McAndrews Award as Outstanding Male Athlete. Tom and his wife, the former Pamela A. Schwab reside in Carlisle with their daughter Lauren 14 and son Matthew 11.
