About This Inductee

Sherri was an All-Star at Wyoming Valley West High School in three sports: field hockey, basketball and softball and an All-American catcher at the University of Massachusetts, playing on two reconstructed knees which she injured in high school basketball. In 2 years of high school basketball, she scored 1057 points. Sherri received an athletic scholarship to the University of Massachusetts. She played for UMass in the college World Series in Oklahoma City, finishing third. In 1993, Sherri’s batting average was .469 with 8 homeruns, 68 RBIs and a .990 field percentage. She was named All-Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year in 1990, Player of the Year in 1993, tournament MVP 3 years, All-Conference, All-American, Northeast All-American member of ECAC All-Stars and All-New England 2 years. Sherri is still recognized as all-time UMass home run leader at 8 (during the 1993 season) and was drafted in 1995 by the Women’s Professional Fastpitch League, one of 120 and one of only 5 from Pennsylvania. A second pick in the 10th round, she hit slot 56 overall. Sherri is the daughter of Maryann and Bernard Kuchinskas of Courtdale. Sherri worked as a physical therapist and is currently in her fourth year of medical school.
