About This Inductee

Mr. Phillip B. Latinski is a 1957 graduate of Coughlin High School, King’s College (1961), and Scranton University, where he earned his Master’s Degree in School Administration in 1966. He is currently serving as principal of GAR Memorial High School in Wilkes-Barre, where he also serves as a member of the Wilkes-Barre City Council Government. Mr. Latinski’s school career includes the following activities, achievements, and awards: While a student at Coughlin High School, he participated in varsity football as a tackle for four years; in 1956, he was a member of the Wyoming Valley Championship Football Team and the Wilkes-Barre Record/ Times Leader Coaches’ All-Scholastic First Team. During that same year, he was also a member of the WBAX Radio Station All-Scholastic First Team, the UNICO East All Star Team, and the Sunday Independent Second Team All Scholastic. While in high school, Latinski was also a member of the varsity track team and threw the Shot Put, Javelin, and Discus. In 1957, he was the undefeated Wyoming Valley Track Conference Shot Put Champion, and the B’nai B’rith Games Shot Put Champion. In that same year, he received the District II, PIAA Track Meet Silver Medal for Shot Put and the Wilkes-Barre City School District Shot Put Gold Medal Champion award. In 1957, Latinski was recipient of the Ben Cohen Outstanding Athlete Award at Coughlin High School. While attending King’s College on a scholarship, he played varsity football and lettered for four years; he was chosen the team’s outstanding player during the King’s-Scranton Football game of 1960. As a coach, Latinski served as assistant football coach at GAR Memorial Junior/Senior High School from 1962 through 1969, then at Coughlin High School from 1970 through 1972. He also served as the assistant track coach for GAR from 1963 through 1966 and intramural basketball coach from 1963 through 1972. Phil Latinski served as president of the Pennsylvania Association of Secondary School Principals during 1990, and in 1991 was honored as Pennsylvania’s Outstanding Principal of the Year at a Washington, D.C. ceremony. He serves as president of the Wyoming Valley Football Conference and Swim Conference; He is also a member of the District II, PIAA Committee, and the Eastern Football Conference Steering Committee. In addition, Latinski serves as a PIAA track official. He is a member of the Parson’s Lions Club in Wilkes-Barre, and serves as a member of the Wilkes-Barre Police Civil Service Commission.
