Lou Biacchi was a three-sport athlete at Berwick High School from 1950-53, playing football, basketball. and baseball. In 1953, he obtained a football scholar-ship to Fordham University, where he was a member of their Freshman Team. Then, in 1954, he entered the Cherry Point Marines and became a member of the All Marine Team.. In 1955, he was a member of the All Marine Team at Parris Island. He was also selected to the All Sea-Service Team. Biacchi returned to college in 1956 where he acquired a football scholarship to Catawaba College in North Carolina. At Catawaba, he was a member of the Little All American, All State and All Conference teams in 1956 and 1957. Furthermore, during the ’56 season, Biacchi was ranked eighth in the nation in total offense and 15th in passing yardage. He was also ranked third nationally in total offense and eighth in passing yardage in 1957. In 1958, Biacchi played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Calgary Stampeeders. After his professional career, Biacchi started a football program at Central Columbia High School where he was head coach and physical education teacher from 1960-69. Although he left Central Columbia in 1969, he continued coaching as the Assistant football coach at Berwick High School from 1971-74. He is married to the former Sandra Kishbaugh. They are the parents of two daughters, Mrs. Shelly Wilson and Laurie. At the present time Biacchi is the Mayor of Berwick.
