About This Inductee

Karen played volleyball and softball at Lake Lehman High School, Dallas PA. The 10th grade volleyball team won the Wyoming Valley Conference Class AA Title and participated in the state playoffs in 10890. In 1990 the team took a second place medal in WVC District 2 Class AAA and won the Luzerne County Recreation Department Underclassman Girls Tournament. Karen was selected as a Class AAA All Star and was the first girls volleyball player in the history of Lake Lehman to receive All State Honorable Mention. In 1991 the team had an undefeated season (14-0) and own the District 2 Class AA title (the first ever in girls volleyball) and Karen was named MBP. She also was named second team All State and played in the PA Volleyball Coaches East-West All-Star game. As a sophomore, Karen was named a WVC Class AA All Star in softball. As a junior, she was again named a WBC Class AAA MVP, the team winnings the WBC Class AAA South title. Karen’s pitching record was 13-2 that year. With a senior year pitching record of 16-2, the team again won the District 2 Class AAA title. Karen was again named MVP and played in the Dallas Kiwanis Club Senior All-Star game. As a senior, Karen was awarded Lake Lehman’s Scholar Athlete Award. Karen has also participated in the Keystone State Games, winning a silver medal for fast pitch softball in 1992. At Trenson State College, Karen finished second in the Division III National Softball Championships in 1993 and in 1994 finished first. In 1995, she finished second and was named All-American and played on the New Jersey Athletic Conference NJAC All Conference Softball Team. Karen’s collegiate pitching stats are 52-5. In 1996 Karen was finalist for “Athlete of the Year” presented by the Killer Bees Association. Her picture is on Lake-Lehman High School’s Wall of Fame –  one of two for softball. In 1997 Karen became assistant coach at Northwest Area High School and was head coach from 1998-2004, winning the WVC District III championship in 2001, 2002 and 2003. From 2008 to 2010 Karen was assistant coach at Northwest Area, winning the WVC Division III championship in 2008 and the WVC Division II championship 2009 and 2010. Karen is currently employed as a mathematics teacher at Northwest Area School District. Karen and her husband currently reside in the Hunlock Creek area with their three children – Ashley (16), Jarrett (12) and Allyson (7). She enjoys watching her children participated in various athletic events and extracurricular activities.
