Joseph, a 1954 graduate of Tunkhannock High School, lettered 3 times in football, basketball, volleyball, and baseball. He functioned as team football captain in 1953, playing tailback on the unbeaten Tiger squad (8-0). He led the team in rushing and scoring. In basketball, he led the Tigers in scoring in his junior year (368 points) and senior year (327 points). He was All-League during his junior and senior years and was team captain as a senior. He also led the Tigers to a District 12 volleyball title as team captain in 1953-1954. From 1952 through 1954, the Tigers won the Back Mountain League Baseball Championship. Joe led the team in homeruns and runs batted in his last two seasons there, and was captain of the team in his senior year. After high school, Joseph played two years in the New York Yankee organization. He then entered the U.S. Air Force and made the All-Military, All-Star Team two years in baseball and basketball, playing at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. Following his stint in the military, Joe attended High Point College in North Carolina, where he was All-League for two years. Since 1970, Joe has coached boys and girls basketball, golf, and baseball at Mid-Valley High School and also functioned as assistant football coach. He is still active as a P.I.A.A. official in football.
